2013-02-19 | In London – NARIP Music Supervisor Session -w- Trailer Park’s Bobby Gumm ***SOLD OUT***

Intimate Meeting & Pitch Session With Music Supervisor from Hollywood, CA Trailer Park’s Bobby Gumm on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 (1:00 p.m.) at the BPI in London DETAILS A top-rated music supervisor in Los Angeles is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in London: Trailer Park’s Bobby Gumm. Gumm commissions, licenses and places music for global feature film trailer campaigns for the world’s biggest blockbusters as well as for independent films, global advertising campaigns and television. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch him for current opportunities. Trailers – which represents a large part of Gumm’s client work – have skyrocketed in recent years as an important and lucrative vehicle for music licensing. Synch fees for music in trailers tend to be larger because the rights requested tend to be more broad (worldwide, in perpetuity, used in every possible media). Also, trailers are typically part of a film’s marketing budget rather than its music budget, with film marketing budgets almost always many times larger than music budgets. One senior music executive at Fox Studios says that the music budget for a film is rarely larger than 3% of its overall budget, if that. ABOUT BOBBY GUMM Bobby Gumm is a Music Director at Trailer Park, a large multi-faceted ad agency that specializes in movie trailers. Prior to Trailer Park he began his career at Intralink Film and then spent several years with Flyer Entertainment. With almost a decade of music supervision experience, Gumm has supervised well over one hundred trailers including Batman Begins, Up, Avatar, J Edgar and Batman: Arkham City. Some of his recent credits include trailers for The Dark Knight Rises, Anchorman 2, The Great Gatsby, Brave, Horrible Bosses, Pacific Rim, Iron Man 3, the Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and Guilt Trip. Call 818-769-7007 or contact NARIP SPEAKER PROFILES Sterling Bacon Red Light Artist Management Sterling began his career in the music business in 1996 as an assistant at an Atlanta recording studio. After a brief stint with an independent record label the following year, he shifted his focus to artist management and began working at Alliance Artists in 1998. Over the past 15 years, he has worked with such acts as Bad Company, STYX, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tesla, Thin Lizzy, Pop Evil, SHIROCK, Don Felder & Bo Bice. Currently an Artist Manager at Red Light Management, he manages the country band Connor Christian & Southern Gothic and handles day-to-day operations for the bands STYX, Almost Kings, Don Felder, Outlaws, Blackhawk and more. Sterling also served as the product manager for Pazzo Music, an independent record label launched in 2008 by Alliance Artists, in partnership with industry veteran George Cappellini and Fontana Distribution. In addition to his artist management and record label duties, Sterling designed, developed and maintains a custom-built database application, created for the purpose of managing the information and workflow of all touring operations for Red Light Management’s clients. He also handles much of the graphic and web design for Red Light’s clients. An Atlanta native, Sterling’s path in music began at an early age with piano and trumpet lessons, but it was his first purchase of an electric guitar at the age of 15 and The Who’s “Tommy” that solidified his path. Prior to beginning his career on the business side of music, Sterling played in a Denver-based band for several years. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado, Boulder, and lives in the Atlanta area with his wife and two children. Sterling is an Executive Committee Member with Georgia Music Partners and a member of the Recording Academy’s Atlanta Chapter. Charlie Brusco Red Light Artist Management Charlie Brusco’s early love of rock and roll music has led to one of the industry’s most successful careers in artist management. In the early 70s, Brusco discovered and managed The Outlaws, who were the first act signed to Clive Davis’ Arista Records in 1973. His work with this multi-platinum southern rock giant paved the way for his relationship with classic rock radio legend Lynyrd Skynyrd. His successful revival of Skynyrd’s career brought other classic rock acts to his door such as Bad Company, Peter Frampton, Survivor, Tesla, John Waite, Thin Lizzie and Styx. Charlie was born in Pittsburgh, PA and at 14 formed his own band which won a recording session with RCA Records. After college he moved to Tampa, FL and founded Southern Bay Productions. After discovering The Outlaws he moved to Macon, GA and then to Atlanta, GA in 1976. He created High Tide Management, Inc. The company was wildly successful and in 1979 The Outlaws sold out Madison Square Garden. During Jimmy Carter’s victorious run for the White House in 1976, Charlie arranged and produced many concerts for the benefit of Carter’s campaign. He began to promote concerts in addition to his managerial duties. During that time he promoted the benefit Amnesty International Concert at the Omni in 1986 with Bill Graham and Alex Cooley. Stars such as U2, The Police and Bryan Adams appeared. Ten years after the tragic 1977 plane crash, Charlie reunited the survivors of Lynyrd Skynyrd and they have successfully toured up to the present day. In 1996 he also reunited the members of Styx and they had the most successful tour of their 20+ year career. At present, they are even hotter, selling out venues all over the country. They appeared at the Super Bowl twice in recent years. The day after the heartbreaking events of 9/11/2001 Charlie and Styx decided they could not just stand by and do nothing. During one phone call “Volunteers for America” was conceived. Charlie and his staff put together, in only 3 weeks, two benefit concerts. Appearing at the Atlanta and Dallas concerts were Styx, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bad Company, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Peter Frampton, Eddie Money, John Waite, Survivor, Mark Farner and was MC’d by Drew Carey. Charlie got hotels to donate rooms, airlines to give him lower prices, buses, trucks, sound and lights all donated or did the job at rock bottom prices. The artists and all the crew took no money for their efforts. These concerts netted $575,000 and in November 2001, Charlie, members of his staff, members of Styx, Journey and REO Speedwagon stood at the ruins of The World Trade Center and presented a check for $550,000 to the Port Authority Police World Trade Survivor Fund. $25,000 was given straight to 2 individuals which included Kelly Lee, widow of well-known tour carpenter Danny Lee who was killed on the flight from Boston going home for the birth of his second child. In 2002 two concerts were done at the Meadowlands in New Jersey and in Cleveland. Participating in the proceeds that year was the Port Authority Police and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Educational Fund. Charlie was honored in 2005 with NARAS’ prestigious Hero’s Award along with Coretta Scott King and Usher. His good friend, Jon Bon Jovi presented him to the audience and Styx was his musical guest. In 2010 he was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame as a non-performer with Styx James “JY” Young and Tommy Shaw doing the honors. In January 2012 Charlie joined the prestigious Red Light Management that manages artists such as The Dave Matthews Band, Phish, Alicia Keyes, Tim McGraw and many, many more. His office became the Atlanta Red Light Office. RLM has offices in NYC, Nashville, Los Angeles, Denver, London and is headquartered in Charlottesville, VA. He sits on the Board of TJ Martell Cancer Organization and NARAS. Charlie has been active in Grammys in the Schools and sat on the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland. Beth B. Moore, Esq. Janet is also responsible for music used in CNN promos and Public Service Announcements, and various promos and programming for TruTV and the TCM Network; with the music negotiated for use on television, theatrical trailers, radio, Internet, and New Media; as well as social networking sites, special live marketing promotions, mailers, press kits and in-store use. She has also produced various artist showcases at Turner for the employees and specifically the creative divisions at all of Turner’s networks. Before moving from California to Atlanta in 2006, Janet was in charge of all licensed music for Universal Television productions, plus the USA Network and Studios USA. Janet later managed all licensed music for Paramount Pictures Television in Hollywood, California, plus the UPN network, Showtime Network and VH-1 productions. She held the title of Director of Music Clearance and Licensing for all television production at each of these studios. Some of the notable weekly series that she worked on include New York Undercover, Quantum Leap, Law & Order, Star Trek Voyager, Resurrection Boulevard, Girlfriends, and many TV movies including a biography on the artist Meatloaf and another about the Beatles. She is also credited with work on various TV soundtrack CD releases. Under her own music clearance, licensing and consulting business, Janet has worked with recording artists, major corporations and book authors and has notably been credited on several published books. In addition, while serving on the Board of Directors for the Opera League of the Los Angeles Opera, Janet produced several artist showcases, plus many music and educational events for the opera company. Janet continues to mentor and speak on panels to her peers in the music industry, including new songwriters and artists and has also become involved in a few new business ventures currently in development, which include a benefit concert, film production and a radio show. She is also a co-producer/ organizer of the newly launched Music Makers Network, which features regular music industry events intended to promote networking and educational opportunities within all of Atlanta’s music industry. Simon Horrocks, Co-Founder, Affix Music Simon Horrocks and Michael Weeman are the driving force behind Affix Music. Their vision for the company evolved from a shared appreciation of urban music, working relationships with successful producers and recording artists and deep experience in artist management and music publishing. They’ve made it their mission to make licensing easier and more profitable for everyone involved. As a management consultant for Ciara, Simon Horrocks witnessed the global demand for hip-hop while working with the Grammy-winning artist on her first world tour. Simon discovered the supply side of the business when he returned home to Atlanta to work with Devyne Stephens as the GM of Upfront Records, home to Akon & Kandi. A mountain of CDs from hopeful unsigned talent began to grow on his desk. The opportunity to connect supply and demand presented itself when he was asked to find affordable, relevant music for an urban lifestyle project with The Athlete’s Foot. Simon selected a track from one of the producers he was working with, and the net result was a satisfying win-win experience for all involved. Thinking he might be onto something, Simon approached several producers to shop their unplaced music for TV and radio projects. “Yes. Go get me a check!” was their unanimous response. Simon immediately started helping Clear Channel find musical talent for major brand advertisers. From there he landed projects for HBO, BET and Disney. Business was good, but he wondered if the venture would be scalable. After serving as an artist manager and an A&R consultant to MCA Records and Zomba Music Publishing, Michael Weeman was hired as a Writer-Publisher exec to open BMI’s Urban-focused Atlanta office. As the city’s Urban Music community continued to evolve, he left BMI to manage a group of producers and mixers with Multi-Platinum credits, including Ludacris, Lil Jon, David Banner, Bone Crusher and Shop Boyz. Michael was impressed by the resourcefulness and prolificacy of the talent in his stable. He was also struck by the volume of quality music left un-monetized in the rapidly changing music business. He began using his knowledge of music publishing and his law degree to negotiate licensing deals to help his team capitalize on the unplaced music in their catalogs. But the traditional methods of licensing often made the process extraordinarily time-intensive, and the varied collaborations inherent in Urban music creation made the deals cumbersome. There had to be a better way. When Simon and Michael shared their experiences, they agreed the market was hungry for quality urban Music and related genres. They both agreed the conventions of licensing were creating obstacles that were stunting the growth of creativity for music providers and media professionals. And they both agreed that they were uniquely positioned to solve the creative and legal problems that would help break down these obstacles to let the music flow. 2013-01-10 | In LA – NARIP Trailer Music Supervisor Session: Mob Scene’s Holly Hung
×
Intimate Meetings & Pitch Sessions with Top Music Supervisors Session with Mob Scene Music Director Holly Hung on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Universal Mastering Studios in Los Angeles DETAILS Top-rated Trailer Music Supervisor Holly Hung is our special guest at this NARIP Music Supervisor Session in LA. Hung commissions, licenses and places music for global feature film trailer campaigns for the world’s biggest blockbusters as well as for independent films, global advertising campaigns and television. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time with him, registrants get brief of her CURRENT music needs prior to the session to help them better prepare, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback from her to YOUR material. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch her for current opportunities. Trailers – which represents a large part of Hung’s client work – have skyrocketed in recent years as an important and lucrative vehicle for music licensing. ABOUT HOLLY HUNG Holly has over 17 years of experience placing and producing music for award-winning motion picture advertising campaigns. As of now, she has worked on over 400+ different motion picture campaigns for studios and various production companies. Currently, she is the Music Director at Mob Scene Creative but before that she was the Music Director at MOJO for nearly a decade. Her favorite trailers she’s music-supervised include The Hunger Games, 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Curious Case of Benjamin Button and various trailers and TV spots for all eight of The Harry Potter campaigns. Also, TV commercial campaigns for BMW (“The Hire” Series starring Clive Owen), Ford, Toyota and AT&T to name a few. Holly is a two-time Key Art Award winner for Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and has been nominated for Best Music at the Golden Trailer awards four times. She also supervised the documentary short “Mighty Times: The Children’s March” which won the Academy Award in 2004. She is a member of the Guild of Music Supervisors, American Federation of Musicians and the Screen Actors Guild. Come meet this career-maker. SMALL IS THE NEW BIG NARIP’s small sessions (limited enrollment of 16 people per session) guarantee face-time with our guest, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. You get to meet and pitch our guest for current opportunities on the spot, receiving instant feedback as to whether a song or cue is appropriate or not, and most importantly, WHY. This feedback makes better pitches – and ultimately, placements – possible. Participants even have the opportunity to re-work music to better fit a supervisor’s needs. Placements secured and professional relationships formed through NARIP”s music supervisor sessions have earned praise and and placements! See TESTIMONIALS and PLACEMENTS sections below.
