Intimate Pitch Meetings With Music Supervisors
from Film & TV Trailer Houses

Session #7 with Ignition Creative’s Natalie Baartz
on Wednesday, May 2, 2012
in Los Angeles, CA

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

DETAILS

A top-rated music supervisor from one of the leading trailer houses in Los Angeles is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles: Natalie Baartz, Music Director for Ignition Creative. Baartz commissions, licenses and places music for global movie trailer campaigns for the world’s biggest blockbusters and independent films. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch her for current opportunities on the spot, receiving instant feedback as to whether a song is appropriate or not, and WHY. This valuable feedback makes better pitches – and ultimately, placements – possible. In some cases, participants even have time to re-work their music to better fit a supervisors’ needs.

Trailers have skyrocketed in recent years as an important and lucrative vehicle for music licensing. Synch fees for music in trailers tend to be larger because the rights requested tend to be more broad (worldwide, in perpetuity, used in every possible media). Also, trailers are typically part of a film’s marketing budget rather than its music budget, with film marketing budgets almost always many times larger than music budgets. One senior music executive at Fox Studios says that the music budget for a film is rarely larger than 3% of its overall budget, if that.

Placements secured and professional relationships formed through these meetings are so good that we felt this format would work well for those who represent catalogs and/or seek intimate pitch opportunities with the best trailer house music supervisors in the business.

ABOUT NATALIE BAARTZ

A music supervisor for over 9 years, Natalie Baartz is Music Director at Ignition Creative where she manages the music department and is in charge of all music for all projects. As well as pitching a huge range of commercial artists, she also works closely with composers, DJs, and remixers to do custom scores (orchestral to dubstep). While at Ignition she has been responsible for such high profile campaigns as Martin Scorsese’s Hugo Cabret, Spielberg’s Tin Tin, 2011 Sundance winner Like Crazy, Super 8, Devil’s Double, Another Earth, 30 Minutes or Less, Fright Night, Transformers 3, Battleship, to name a few, as well as multiple primetime television show campaigns, most recently HBO’s Luck. Prior to Ignition, Natalie worked for four years as a music supervisor at the Ant Farm trailer house, selecting commercial music and working with composers on score for movie campaigns, building a foundation in dealing with the marketing departments of all of the major film studios. She worked on several prominent campaigns including Warner’s Where The Wild Things Are (garnering the Golden Trailer Award for Best Music with Arcade Fire), Sony’s Julie and Julia, and Eat Pray Love, (which set Florence and the Machine on the map with the use of Dog Days Are Over); Universal’s It’s Complicated, Paramount’s Iron Man, Star Trek, Transformers 1 and 2 and The Reader for the Weinstein Company. While at Ant Farm she also supervised numerous video game trailers. Prior to getting into entertainment advertising she spent four years working with independent music supervisor John Bissell where she started as an intern and was eventually promoted to music supervisor. During her time with Bissell, she worked on studio and independent features including Ladder 49, Lord of War, You Kill Me, The Architect, 10th and Wolf, and Junebug. Natalie completed her Bachelors Degree in Film and Media at the College of Cheltenham in England before moving to Hollywood to pursue her music supervision career. Her main passion is Composers and Film Score, and she constantly seeks new, innovative composers for her projects.

You are invited to NARIP’s

Digital Music License Deal Mock Negotiation

on Wednesday, April 25, 2012

at SAE Institute in San Francisco

With major changes in the digital music licensing landscape in recent years, the need for a clear road map when making a deal is needed now more than ever.

At this NARIP program, two attorneys explain what you need to know. They will then face off in a live mock negotiation of key deal points and contractual issues that affect a rights holder’s options and income.

These experts will give you the inside track on major deal points, what they mean and what leverage you have to negotiate the best possible deal. Also to be discussed: the pros and cons of some of the major digital music services.

Most people think they can just hand a negotiation to a lawyer, and leave it at that. But as a professional, you need to be aware of the process and deal points, too, and what the short- and long-term implications to your artists’ careers may be.

Most importantly, you will see HOW a digital music license deal is negotiated and be involved in the process.

Get educated about the art of deal-making!

Attorneys and non-attorneys are welcome.
You need not be a NARIP member to attend.

YOU WILL LEARN

  • Important deal points including ancillary rights, royalty rates for mobile, digital downloads, and interactive streaming services.
  • Rights and revenue streams typically included
  • What parties enter into digital music license deals?
  • Calculation of royalties and basic revenue-sharing structures: % net, % retail, wholesale vs. retail, “PPD”, “Penny rate”

NARIP Music Supervisor Sessions:

Intimate Pitch Meetings With Music Supervisors
from Film & TV Trailer Houses

Session #6 with Create Advertising’s Heather Kreamer
on Thursday, April 19, 2012

in Los Angeles, CA

Jump to registration below, click here.

DETAILS

A top-rated music supervisor from one of the leading trailer houses in Los Angeles is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles: Heather Kreamer, Music Supervisor for Create Advertising. Kreamer commissions, licenses and places music for global movie trailer campaigns for the world’s biggest blockbusters and independent films.

ABOUT HEATHER KREAMER

Heather Kreamer is Director of Music for Create Advertising, an entertainment marketing company. She oversees all music needs for both their Los Angeles and London offices. This includes finding and licensing the perfect commercial music, as well as working with composers to create custom scores. Prior to joining Create, Heather spent 5 years running the music department of mOcean, another entertainment marketing agency. Her background includes building the film and television department for INgrooves, a global music distributor. She began her music career at Natural Energy Lab, where she signed signed artists and marketed their music for sync placements. Heather has worked on hundreds of successful motion picture marketing campaigns including The Amazing Spiderman, The Avengers, Captain America and The Vow, to name a few.

Show Me The Money… But First Get Me The Paperwork:
ABCs of Documents You Need When Licensing Music

on Wednesday, April 18, 2012

at SAE Institute in Atlanta

According to Billboard magazine, among the 100 ways for music to receive exposure and cut through clutter, 7 of the top 10 ways include song placement. Music placement has increased dramatically in importance with the proliferation of media channels, and the competition is fierce as more artists and their reps seek licensing opportunities.

Success in synch licensing requires relationship-building, patience and understanding the needs of the music buyer.

It also requires organization and paperwork.

In this NARIP program, music licensing expert Tammy Hurt – who has secured hundreds of music placements in all media – will discuss strategies and documents she uses once she secures a synch license.

Most importantly, you will receive copies of important documents, learn how to close and “paper” these deals and keep music buyers coming back for more.

NARIP programs on this topic have been a hit in every city where NARIP has conducted it.

Get educated about the art of music placement!

You will learn:

  • You’ve made a placement, now what?
  • Important deal points and legal documents required
  • Explanation of standard deal points
  • Budgets and fee ranges
  • Types of deals
  • Things to avoid
  • Negotiation
  • Hiring a lawyer: pros and cons
  • Closing the deal
  • Typical flow of earnings from a film, TV, trailer or ad placement
  • How to get paid
Sample license agreement, quote sheet and cue sheet will be distributed at event.

Don’t miss this insider’s peek at the music placement realities of the fastest-changing business in the world. Most importantly, this program gives you practical information you can apply immediately to work with music buyers and land placements NOW.

ABOUT DAN WILCOX

It was evident at an early age that Dan Wilcox had a passion for music – he learned how to use his parents’ turntable before he could tie his shoes. Growing up in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, interesting music was in short supply and Dan would frequent the college record store, comb garage sales, scan fanzines and make out-of-town trips just to satisfy his craving for intriguing and exotic tunes, both new and old. This experience serves him well to this day as both a DJ and a music supervisor. For years, Dan was Music Director at Ten Music, a company that found commercial licensing opportunities for indie artists. He now works freelance as a music supervisor for various film, TV and ad projects. Since 2007, Dan has hosted a Saturday night music program on KCRW. He hosts a musical piñata of sounds perfect for a night of partying, including new discoveries, remixes and rarities, b-sides and lost classics. In addition, he has deejayed at many of the top nightspots in Los Angeles, including The Standard Hotel, Bardot, Zanzibar, The Crocker Club and a residency at The Doheny, as well as various events at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles Film Festival and the Independent Spirit Awards.

These include placing “The Big One” in the film Chronicle, “Soul of a Man Never Dies” in an episode of True Blood and “Jhiara” in an episode of Dexter following NARIP sessions with Andrea von Foerster and Gary Calamar earlier this year in Los Angeles. You can read more about it here.

Placements secured and professional relationships formed through these meetings are so good that we felt this format would work well for those who represent catalogs and/or seek intimate pitch opportunities with the best (and busiest) ad agency music supervisors in the business.

Limited to 15 people, NARIP’s sessions enable you to get to know the supervisors and more importantly, enable them to get to know you. At private sessions this year in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Berlin and London participants were able to pitch for current opportunities on the spot, receiving instant feedback as to whether a song was appropriate or not, and WHY. This valuable feedback makes better pitches – and ultimately, placements – possible. In some cases, participants even had time to re-work their music to better fit a supervisors’ needs.

Above all, attendees MET key players in the modern music business, paving the way for future opportunities and giving them an edge in a highly competitive market.

At our next session in London, participants will have the opportunity to pitch music for specific opportunities for current campaigns and get immediate, direct feedback from one ad agency music supervisor.

A NEW ACCESS POINT

“We have created an access point that wasn’t available before,” says Tess Taylor, president of the National Association of Record Industry Professionals (NARIP) and creator of the series. “We’re thrilled with the success of these sessions in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Berlin, as are participants. This broadens the access to music, access that might otherwise not exist. We’re grateful for the positive reception we received in London at our first sessions there in November, and look forward to bringing many more to this city that has produced some of the best-loved music in the world.”

NARIP’s sessions diversify potential usage of music and are appropriate for those who represent catalogs of all sizes.

What attendees say about NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions (with film / TV and ad agency music supervisors) held earlier this year in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Berlin:

  • “Getting personal and immediate feedback… was very valuable.” – Cathi Gibson, Rough Trade (attended Chris Mollere session in London)

  • “Straight talking honesty, love it! Very rare in this industry, the whole event from start to finish was faultless, best event I have been to by far.” – Guy Stanway, ZY Records (attended Chris Mollere and Andrea von Foerster sessions in London)

  • “Most valuable: honest opinions and face time with the supervisors. The overall quality of the event and the people involved was great – friendly, interesting, informative – and most of all very useful. A lot of these seminars promise a lot and deliver very little – these DO deliver. And after being in the industry 15 years, I feel like I actually learnt something!! Great!!!” – Julie Weir, Visible Noise (attended Chris Mollere and Andrea von Foerster sessions in London)

  • “I had a great time last week and learned a lot. It was a real inspiration … I already feel indebted to you for such a fantastic week, it was very exciting to meet you and the team.” – Sarah Llewelyn, Tonal.org.uk (attended Andrea von Foerster session in London)

  • “I’ve had 3 managers and 5 years of plugging away on the Internet for contacts and had more success getting material in front of a music supervisor with NARIP’s sessions than anything previously! Please keep it up, I will definitely attend more!” – Shay Dillon, Independent (attended Gary Calamar’s session in LA)

  • “I applaud NARIP in establishing these sessions!” – Richard Khuzami, Dahdoo Productions (attended Jessica Dierauer session in New York)

  • “Such an amazing night … I have been to many such events but have never felt this kind of intimacy and accessibility, and came away feeling like I really made a super connection in the industry. At Jessica [Dierauer’s] session I gave her a CD of 30 and 60 second clips. Her assistant emailed me yesterday (before I even followed up!) to say that they can use some of my tracks and needed some metadata (another lesson I learned at NARIP’s session about imprinting metadata onto all tracks!). So I am thrilled to have made such a great contact in the ad biz because of NARIP. So how can I not attend all your amazing sessions knowing I will make such high level contacts that would have been very difficult for me to have made on my own? I can’t wait for the next session!” and feedback following Ryan Fitch’s session: “Last night’s session with Ryan Fitch was wonderful! Ryan is a straight shooter with class and sensitivity and I got a lot out of the session in terms of what he is looking for. I have made incredible contacts in the advertising business because of NARIP and there is no other music networking group that comes close to what NARIP offers, I’m a fan!” Gail Vareilles, Sandshifter Music (attended 5 sessions in New York with Jessica Dierauer, Paul Greco, Mike Boris, Josh Rabinowitz and Ryan Fitch)

  • “Please keep me informed of the next NARIP sessions in London and LA. Once again, many thanks for the opportunity to pitch.” – Reza Davoudi, Nineteen95 Artist Management (attended Andrea von Foerster’s and Gary Calamar’s sessions in Berlin, and Andrea con Foerster’s and Chris Mollere’s sessions in London)

  • “Was lots of fun and learned a ton of new things. Both Jessica and Ed were great. Also, the anecdotes (e.g. Serge Gainsbourg’s daughter rejecting AXE) are priceless. Thanks again for coordinating these wonderful sessions. I will highly recommend to others.” – David Liang, Shanghai Restoration Project (attended Jessica Dierauer session in New York and John Houlihan session in Los Angeles)

  • “Thank you very much for the very interesting pitching session with Andrea at the Popkomm. I would be very keen to take part [in NARIP’s London Supervisor Sessions].” – Christoph Becker, Moanin’ Records (attended Andrea von Foerster’s session in Berlin)

  • “[NARIP’s Music Supervisor series] is a very effective and beneficial program to get contact with the local and national supervisors who run the film and TV industry.” – Robert Case, President, New Pants Publishing (attended Carolyn Richardson, Gary Calamar and Julianne Jordan and sessions in Los Angeles)

  • “Great event with PJ Bloom! Definitely an uncommon opportunity.” and feedback to the Todd Porter San Francisco session: “What a super event last night! Thanks for providing such a unique and excellent opportunity. Where else could I sit down with a top-notch professional like Todd Porter and get immediate feedback on my work? He was very candid and informative, willing to illustrate the ins and outs of the ad business with brilliant clarity. And the chance that he might be able to utilize my music? Invaluable! I’ll be back!” – Joel Evans, Cinemasters (attended PJ Bloom and Todd Porter sessions in San Francisco, and Jessica Dierauer session in New York)

  • “Thank you once again for a fantastic series of supervisor sessions. Looking forward to many more sessions and events with NARIP… Thank you all for your professionalism, earnestness and care in providing the very best for us. We SO appreciate everything you do. [NARIP provides] incredible value.”” – Ben Bidlack, Bees & Honey Music (attended all seven sessions in Los Angeles and PJ Bloom session in San Francisco

  • “Thank you and the NARIP staff for the supervisor session with Jessica… This was a ‘crash course’ in what an advertising music supervisor needs versus a music cues written for TV shows (which is what I was familiar with)…. I already signed up for the next session on the 27th.” – Classical arranger / composer / producer Sor Harris (attended Jessica Dierauer session in New York)

  • “I found the session extremely interesting/helpful, and I look forward to attending the rest of the series.” – Jacob Weinrib, Parma Licensing (attended Jessica Dierauer session in New York)

  • “Ryan was an awesome guest who genuinely appreciated the music we had to offer and gave us spot-on, thoughtful comments with which to build upon. I can see why he was voted a top music supervisor in last year’s NARIP poll! We all went out with Ed [Razzano – program moderator] afterwards (including Ryan) to cap off a great 6-session series [in New York]. I know I speak for all of us, especially the ones like me who attended all of the sessions, when I say that we’re sad that they are ending. – Annie Calder, Coral West Music (attended Chris Mollere’s session in Los Angeles, and 6-part series in New York including sessions with Jessica Dierauer, Jane Scofield, Paul Greco, Mike Boris, Josh Rabinowitz and Ryan Fitch)

  • “I really enjoyed the event and definitely see the value in the intimacy of it. • “What a wonderful job NARIP is doing in putting together these events that help professionals connect and share information. Kudos to NARIP and your wonderful team.” – Daniel Indart, Latin Music Specialists (attended Chris Mollere and Julianne Jordan sessions in Los Angeles)

DETAILS

Velvet Ears’ Liz Gallcher is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles. Gallacher selects, licenses and places music for a variety of film and television shows in the UK and the US, and has contributed to a number of award-winning projects The Full Monty (Brit Award winner for Best Soundtrack), 24 Hour Party People (short-listed for Film Music at the 2003 NME Awards), One Day In September (Oscar-Award winning documentary), The Gathering Storm (Golden Globe winner) and more.

Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch Gallacher for current opportunities.

Music licensing has grown increasing important as a vehicle to expose and market music. At NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions, participants get the inside track on how top music supervisors select music for their projects and do business. Limited enrollment guarantees face-time, one-on-one feedback to music from these career-makers.

SUCCESS STORIES & BACKGROUND

NARIP members have made placements through these limited enrollment sessions, including most recently Peter Kimmel who has secured multiple placements.

Placements secured and professional relationships formed through these meetings are so good that we felt this format would work well for those who represent catalogs and/or seek intimate pitch opportunities with the best trailer house music supervisors in the business.

Limited to 16 people, NARIP’s sessions enable you to get to know the supervisors and more importantly, enable them to get to know you. At private sessions last year in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Berlin and London participants were able to pitch for current opportunities on the spot, receiving instant feedback as to whether a song was appropriate or not, and WHY.

At our next series in Los Angeles, participants will have the opportunity to pitch music for specific opportunities for current trailer and film promotional campaigns and get immediate, direct feedback from one trailer house music supervisor.

What attendees say about NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions (with film / TV and ad agency music supervisors) held in 2011 in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Berlin:

  • “It was really great. Will attend the [sessions] in October. Jessica was really lovely and everyone was so talented.” – Sarah Nagourney, Glassbeat Music (attended Jessica Dierauer session in New York)

  • Very, very informative and helpful. These are fun and the supervisors have been extremely willing to share very useful info. – Catharine Wood, Planetwood Productions (attended Andrea von Foerster, Julianne Jordan and John Houlihan sessions in Los Angeles)

I’m on board for more as well as doing some LA stuff and London… thanks again for putting together such effective events.” – Freddy Charles, Freddy Charles Music (attended 6-part series in New York including sessions with Jessica Dierauer, Jane Scofield, Paul Greco, Mike Boris, Josh Rabinowitz and Ryan Fitch)

  • “Thank you again for providing one of the more professional and useful events that I have ever attended. It was intimate, precise and well-executed. The feedback was immediate and valuable.” – Eric Caver, PTEC Dojo (attended Andrea von Foerster session in Los Angeles)

  • “Another successful and extremely well-organized NARIP event, please keep them coming! … [it was] an amazing opportunity to pitch our music to Gary Calamar in such a personal and focused setting.” – Sven Spieker, Mighty Generation Music (attended Gary Calamar, Andrea von Foerster and Chris Mollere sessions in Los Angeles)

A love of music lead to a career move into music video production and eventually into the position of Head of Music Video at Spy Productions in Los Angeles. This move offered many great opportunities to help develop directing talent. Dan Wilcox, Independent Music Supervisor / KCRW DJ
Session #5: Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Scott McDaniel, Director of Music, Fuel TV
Session #6: Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Scott’s background in music encompasses a range of experience related to the art and business of joining music with visual and entertainment mediums. As the Director of Music at FUEL TV, Scott is responsible for music supervision of the network’s extensive slate of original and licensed programming as well as live event coverage and special features along with overseeing all music licensing efforts. From searching for the right music to highlighting a specific moment, negotiating terms of use with labels and publishers, coordinating on-air artist performances, soliciting original composition creations or facilitating marketing initiatives involving music based promotions, every day is a different challenge. FUEL TV is a division of Fox Sports where Scott’s expertise in music supervision and licensing is also lent to assist the efforts of affiliate stations and their on-air promotions. Prior to FUEL TV, Scott’s talents contributed towards pioneering the increasing connection between music and gaming as Senior Music Supervisor at Activision Blizzard. It was in this position that Scott was awarded Videogame Music Supervisor of the Year for 2010 by his peers in the Guild of Music Supervisors. A result of aggressively seeking opportunities to expand Activision’s alliances with artists, managers, record labels, music publishers, talent agencies and composers within leading and new videogame franchises such as Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, Tony Hawk, Call of Duty, Spider-Man and James Bond – whether selecting songs and shaping music direction, negotiating license terms, placing music personalities into games, supervising original song creation and recordings, compiling and releasing soundtracks or booking talent for appearances, interviews and live performances. Scott worked on a variety of projects of all budget sizes to deliver high quality, award winning soundtracks as well as drive collaborations with some of the music industry’s biggest artists including Metallica, Daft Punk, Taylor Swift, Soundgarden, Aerosmith, Deadmau5, RZA, Pharrell Williams, Sex Pistols and more. NARIP Music Supervisor Sessions:

Intimate Pitch Meetings With Music Supervisors
from Film & TV Trailer Houses

Session #3 with BLT & Associates’ Serena Undercofler
on Wednesday, March 21, 2012
in Los Angeles, CA

Jump to registration below, click here.

A top-rated music supervisor from one of the leading trailer houses in Los Angeles is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles: BLT & Associates Music Supervisor Serena Undercofler. Undercofler commissions, licenses and places music for global movie trailer campaigns for the world’s biggest blockbusters and independent films. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch her for current opportunities.

ABOUT SERENA UNDERCOFLER

Serena Undercofler currently serves as the Music Supervisor at BLT & Associates, one of the most prominent entertainment marketing ad firms in N. America. Before arriving at BLT, Serena began her career at Craig Murray Productions and then moved on to freelance with The Herzog Company, Ignition Creative and mOcean. She has selected, pitched and placed music in the marketing campaigns for 70+ feature films.

Jump to registration below, click here.

DETAILS

Whoopsie Daisy Music’s Madonna Wade-Reed is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles. Wade-Reed selects, licenses and places music for a variety of film and television shows, including the third season of the SpikeTV series Blue Mountain State and Jane By Design for ABC Family.

Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch Wade-Reed for current opportunities.

At our next series in Los Angeles, participants will have the opportunity to pitch music for specific opportunities for current trailer and film promotional campaigns and get immediate, direct feedback from one trailer house music supervisor.

What attendees say about NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions (with film / TV and ad agency music supervisors) held in 2011 in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Berlin:

A love of music lead to a career move into music video production and eventually into the position of Head of Music Video at Spy Productions in Los Angeles. This move offered many great opportunities to help develop directing talent. Madonna then segued into a career in music supervision – first, as a partner in Daisy Music and now as owner of whoopsie daisy. Madonna’s television career has included work on series such as Charlie’s Angels, Blue Mountain State, Smallville, Castle, What About Brian, Barbershop, One Tree Hill, Alias and Felicity and such films as Fred: The Movie, The Perfect Score, My Boss’s Daughter, Careless and the yet to be released A Thousand Words starring Eddie Murphy and Kerry Washington. Dan Wilcox, Independent Music Supervisor / KCRW DJ
Session #5: Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.

Scott is a Los Angeleno native and music obsessive intent on regularly discovering new music.

What attendees say about NARIP’s Music Supervisor Sessions (with film / TV and ad agency music supervisors) held in 2011 in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Berlin:

DETAILS

A top-rated music supervisor from one of the leading trailer houses in Los Angeles is our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in Los Angeles: High Bias Industries Music Supervisor Toddrick Spalding. Spalding commissions, licenses and places music for global movie trailer campaigns for the world’s biggest blockbusters and independent films. Limited enrollment of 16 people per session guarantees face-time, registrants get brief of supervisor’s CURRENT music needs, a chance to pitch plus immediate feedback. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch him for current opportunities.

NARIP SESSIONS RESULT IN MUSIC PLACEMENT IN #1 BOX OFFICE FILM CHRONICLE

How did NARIP members get music placed in this week’s #1 box office film Chronicle? Through NARIP Music Supervisor Session in LA with Andrea von Foerster – music supervisor for the film that is enjoying a tidal wave of positive reviews and #1 box office success this week (February 6, 2012).

Congratulations to NARIP Member Peter Kimmel who represents another NARIP Member Tom Disher (introduced at a NARIP event in San Francisco). Kimmel placed Disher’s music in Chronicle after meeting von Foerster in Los Angeles at NARIP’s session with her.

And congratulations to Andrea for the rave reviews of her soundtrack choices, and on the success of Chronicle! Read more about Chronicle plus reviews here – and go see the film. Get a front row seat at NARIP’s upcoming sessions, scroll down and register now!

Success For Supervisors: What Andrea von Foerster (500 Days of Summer, Chronicle, Grey’s Anatomy) says about NARIP Sessions

Andrea von Foerster was a guest speaker at NARIP Music Supervisor Sessions in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Berlin and London in 2011. Here’s what she says about them:

“All of the NARIP workshops have proven fruitful for me. I placed a Simon Horrocks track (from Affix Music) in “Don’t Trust The B—- In Apr. 23″ [following NARIP’s Atlanta session]. From the LA session, I used a Peter Kimmel-repped Tom Disher track in Chronicle. In Berlin I met with Christian Mix-Linzer from Tracks & Fields and used a No / Fi Riots song in Chronicle. From the London session I’ve requested Bollywood music from Sharon Dean and met with her artist/composer Biggi Hilmars whom I love! In every city, I’ve met with numerous publishers, labels and sync agents at every level and the relationships have proved invaluable. I’m lucky to be associated with such a great group of people.” Andrea von Foerster, Music Supervisor, Firestarter Music

SUCCESS FOR PARTICIPANTS & BACKGROUND

NARIP members have made placements through these limited enrollment sessions, including most recently Peter Kimmel who has secured multiple placements.

At our next series in Los Angeles, participants will have the opportunity to pitch music for specific opportunities for current trailer and film promotional campaigns and get immediate, direct feedback from one trailer house music supervisor.

ABOUT TODDRICK SPALDING

Toddrick Spalding, Music Supervisor, High Bias Industries
Session #2: Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. (current selection)

Toddrick Spalding’s fate was sealed the first time he heard Devo’s “Duty Now For The Future” on his parent’s turntable, it was all downhill from there. He got his start in the industry as founder and drummer of Chicago indie rock band The Detachment Kit. Since those long ago days of constant touring (almost dying at least three times!), Toddrick has built a career in music supervision for film advertising, features, traditional advertising and television. He has worked as Director of Music – Film, TV, and New Media – at Spectre Entertainment Group and as Music Supervisor for film advertising agencies mOcean and The Cimarron Group. His knack for finding the perfect song has helped launch some of Hollywood’s biggest films: Cars 2, Toy Story 3 (biggest animated opening in film history), Inception, Tangled, Red Riding Hood, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, UP, Princess and the Frog, Abduction, Miami Vice, Flags of Our Fathers and others. In 2010 he co-founded High Bias, a music supervision collective in Los Angeles, where he has music-supervised independent features (Littlerock, The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye), traditional advertising (campaigns for Givenchy, Cool Water and others) and continued his work in feature film advertising as a freelance music supervisor (Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, How I Spent My Summer Vacation). In 2011, Toddrick joined the team at independent publisher Spirit Music Group as West Coast Creative Director. He is currently working on filmmaker Mike Ott’s follow-up feature to the critically acclaimed Littlerock and spending as much time as possible with his amazing wife and son.

DETAILS

Voted #1 Ad Agency Music Supervisor by her peers in NARIP’s 2011 Best In The Biz annual survey, Jessica Dierauer is Executive Producer of Music & Creative Content at Young & Rubicam, one of the leading ad agencies in the world. She is also our special guest at NARIP’s next Music Supervisor Session in London. Dierauer selects, commissions and places music for global advertising campaigns for the world’s most recognizable brands. In NARIP’s intimate session, you get to meet and pitch her for current opportunities.

Come meet this career-maker.

SUCCESS STORIES & BACKGROUND

NARIP members have made placements through these limited enrollment sessions, including most recently Peter Kimmel who has secured multiple placements.
